Description

Grand One, Finland’s leading annual competition for digital media, marketing, and service design since 2002, assigns its identity each year to a different Finnish creative agency.

For its 25th anniversary, we created a distinctive concept that subtly evokes the milestone.

The key visual uses a database of past winning works to generate dynamic shapes that, in motion, reveal and highlight selected pieces.

The logotype marks the special occasion in a subtle way.

The visual identity is made interactive and generative at live events, illustrating the awards show digital and tech dimension.

Brief & Design Solution

Turning 25 years of winning work into a living identity

Design process and personas

The visual identity changes each year; for its 25th anniversary, we were briefed to create an identity that evokes the milestone without explicitly stating it in any of the assets.

The key visual uses a database of past winning works to generate shapes in motion, seen across the website, outdoors, and social media. The logotype marks the occasion subtly.

The visual identity becomes interactive and generative at live events, reflecting the show’s digital and technological dimension.

We also designed and produced the first-ever physical award, presented to the top winners of the gala evening.

Technology

Extending the visual identity into a real-time, interactive experience

The workflow for the key visual was created in TouchDesigner, enabling the use of a large database of images and allowing shapes composed of hundreds of images to render and move in real time.

For live events (gala and seminar) we created 2 interactive installations, both using motion tracking – one of them using a Gen AI model running locally.

The generative experience uses a rotating set of predefined prompts that renders people in motion, tracked live by a camera (TouchDesigner + Stable Diffusion). The other allows people to interact live with the key visual also tracked by a camera.

Use of AI

KONE’s ambition is to lead the industry – also in sustainability.

On live events (gala and seminar) people can interact with a generative experience (create by the design team) through motion tracking using a camera connected to TouchDesigner.

We developed a workflow in which motion data is passed to Stable Diffusion, which generates images based on a rotating set of predefined prompts.

The impact

The foundation for KONE’s future-ready digital experience. Through living examples, it sets the stage for how KONE connects with people in an increasingly digital world.

Note: The new KONE website is currently live only in pilot markets (such as the USA), and not all features have been deployed yet (such as the "Adaptive Dock").
